The Predator Pairs Open has been one of the most succesful Open Lure Competitions of the last few years

This year we are making a couple of changes to the way the competition works, to try to help keep it as the premier one off pairs lure competition in the country.

In the first instance we will be limiting the numbers of teams who can enter to just 25 teams. This is to ensure that there is plenty of water for all anglers and that the winners catch good numbers of fish.

Secondly we will be introducing a new emphasis on quality fish. This year only the best 4 zander and best 4 perch from each team will count towards the teams overall total. So that if and when your team manages to catch 4 perch and 4 zander, you can then concentrate on trying to upgrade by catching bigger fish. No other species will count as by and large pike are so few and far between on our waters that they are caught by accident not by design.

This year their will be trophies for the teams who come first, second and third as well as special trophies for best perch and best zander. The winners will also receive £100 in cash each. 2nd will receive £50 in cash each and 3rd will receive £25 in cash each.

LACC Pairs League 16/17 Round 2 report

Posted by John Cheyne, Sunday, 29th May 2016 @ 7:57pm

  • We had 12 teams competing for the 2nd round of the pairs league and everyone was at the meeting point at the Grand Union nice and early for a planned 8.00am start. The water was a nice colour with pretty good visibility and the weather looked set to be hot and sunny. Having been energised by some free chocolate thanks to Rob Busby, everyone set of in pairs to try to make the most of the conditions before the sun made it too tough and the bank holiday boat traffic started in earnest. Every team caught fish, and not surprisingly considering the conditions most of the fish were caught in the first three hours. In total there were 41 perch caught over half of which were over 20cm and eight were over 30cm ! in fact there was only one fish that could be considered a "wasp" caught all day. There were 37 zander caught in total the biggest being 46cm. In total four teams managed to catch over 3m of fish (including bonuses). Felix and Anthony (Catching Z's), Vidar and Alan (Team with No Name), Canalmasters (Mike and Richard) and John & Steve (Worcester Wanglers). All four teams were very close, but Steve Wilson of the Worcester Wanglers managed to land a bonus pike of 65cm which tipped them over the 4m mark and handed them the victory. Our only Polish competitors "Team Widly" who caught the biggest Zander in round one, struggled a little and came last on this occasion, but unfortunatley they could stay for the pub prize-giving and so Yatesy had to wear the Bunny ears on behalf of Him and Bill for coming second last ! Sorry mate !

Vidar and Alan Triumph in 1st round of Pairs League

A very well attended and hotly constested first round of the club pairs league saw "Team No Name 1" which comprises Vidar Thommasen and Alan Brown come out on top with a fantastic haul of 4.44m of perch. Mike McGuire and Richard Haines came in second, fishing as "The Canalmasters" and last years champions Steve Wilson and John Cheyne took 3rd place.

RIP Jan Porter
We recently learned the very sad news that Angling Legend Jan Porter passed away. Very few people actually knew but Jan was a long standing member of thre Lure Anglers Canal Club. He joined after a conversation in Holland with our Club Chairman John Cheyne, because he thought it was a great idea and wanted to support our endevours to run a fishing club that is aimed at lure anglers. Although he rarely fished our waters, he continued to pay his subs and even renewed his membership just a few weeks before he sadly passed away. All in all Jan was a lovely man, a great angler and a proper character. May he rest in peace.

Jan Porter: A lovely man, a brilliant angler and an LACC member

Canal Club links with LSAA to bring our members access to more waters.

We are pleased to announce that the club has struck a deal with Leamington Spa Angling Association which will allow our members to fish some fantatsic stretches of the River Leam in and around Leamington Spa. The Leam offers some amazing fishing with small streamy streches, wide slow areas and even a weirpool and as well as the usual perch, pike and chub this little river also holds some specimen zander. In return LSAA members will be allowed to fish our Grand Union canal water between The Moorings Pub in Leamington and the Blue Lias at Stockton. Hopefully there will be plenty of new anglers on the stretch fishing for the silvers and introducing plenty of bait, to help keep our perch and zander well fed ! LACC beat the LAS to lift the Freindly Cup in it's inaugural year

If you haven't already seen the posts on facebook or the LAS forum, then we are proud to let you know that the 14 strong LACC team that competed in the first ever Friendly Cup match against the Lure Anglers Society recorded a victory by 9-3. In tough fishing conditions things looked pretty tense at lunchtime as the teams were evenly matched on 5 points each. However a great performance by the team in the afternoon turned the match decisively in our favour with team captain John Cheyne leading the way and  taking top honours with best overall catch on the day. Tim kelly of the LAS won the best perch award, while the LACC's own Leigh Hall picked up best zander. All in all it was a fantastic event and we can't wait for next year !

Team captain John Cheyne picks up the award for best angler on the day from the LAS's Kev Taylor who had to wear our traditional bunny ears for blanking !

Once again we have expanded our portfolio of waters, with the addition of a further stretch of the Grand Union between  Lock 11 (Stockton) to Calcutt Bottom Lock 3. This new water extends our existing stretch past the Blue Lias pub and now gives us a total of nearly 20 miles of canal fishing.

We have now published the dates for this seasons Pairs League matches and we would stress that all members are welcome to enter a team. The league is fun and friendly and includes anglers of many different skill levels, so no one should feel that they "aren't good enough" to take part. If you would like to enter but don't have a team mate, then just drop us a line and we will try to pair you up with another member in a similar situation.
