  • Pairs League

Well the final round of the Pairs League was held at our Stratford canal stretch and conditions were tough. It was great fun though and included a couple of cracking fish. Andy Mason had a 100cm pike fishing for Team Rapture and Derek Holmes had a 61cm Zander for the aptly named team Zander Hookers. It was the Zander Hookers who took forst place, followed by the Worcester Wanglers, Team Rapture and Team No Name 1.

Vidar and Alan Storm to Victory in the Snow

Posted by John Cheyne, Tuesday, 19th January 2016 @ 8:43am

  • Well we had a great day at the 5th round of the LACC pairs league. Conditions were tough with snow falling as the match started and slushy ice covering some of the canal, but fish were there to be caught if teams used the right tactics and found the right location. League Leaders John and Steve, AKA Worcester Wanglers got off to a great start by fishing at the first bridge where they found a good number of small perch, while all the other teams headed off up the canal. Vidar and Alan of Team No Name 1 were soon into fish too and were finding a slightly better class of perch, while other teams struggled a little to find more than the odd fish. As the day went on Tom and Adam of the brilliantly named Jiggy Stardust team were making a great start to their first Pairs league match by landing some nice perch including specimens of 32cm and 33cm which would prove to be the best perch of the day. In the end it was Vidar and Alan who were victorious with 28 fish for a total of 472cm which ended Steve and John's run of four wins in a row who had to settle for 2nd place with Team Jiggy Stardust coing 3rd and Joel and Rob of the Forever Hopefuls coming 4th
Here is how the league stands with one round to go.

Christmas Cracker goes with a Bang!

Posted by John Cheyne, Thursday, 17th December 2015 @ 9:52am

  • Last Saturday was the Clubs Christmas get together and despite fairly foul early morning weather we had a good turn out. The event was fished on our Radford Stretch of the GU and although fishing was tough, there were plenty of nice fish caught including the first reported chub on a lure from our waters, a big Zander for Alan Brown, plenty of nice plump perch and a monster Zed lost at the net for Rich Haines. The next event is round 5 of the Pairs league so get signed up now !

Lure Anglers Canal Club
"Christmas Cracker"
Fish-in and Pub

December 12th 2015

MEMBERS ONLY

It will soon be time to celebrate Christmas, but instead of dragging round the shops, eating dry cake at Auntie Beryl's house and wearing bad jumpers, why not get along to the Lure Anglers Canal Club "Christmas Cracker".

We will all meet up on the Saturday morning for non-alchoholic mulled wine and mince pies then it's down to the fishing...a quiet, friendly day catching perch and zander, swapping ideas, stories and having a laugh with other club members. No prizes, no pressure, just a great fun get together..and if you really want to wear that horrendous Xmas jumper, you are welcome to !

We have managed to negotiate parking with the property next door to the canal, so there will be safe, private parking for all cars.

We will then all head up to the White Lion in Radford, to warm out bones and talk about the day's fishing over a pint or two.

Entry will be free, all we ask is that each person bring along a brand new lure fishing "present" wrapped in christmas giftwrap - just something under a tenner. Then everyone will take it in turns to choose a pressie from the pile and get a bit of Christmas Cheer.

We are delighted to announce that LACC have been challenged by the LAS to compete in......

The Friendly Cup
New Annual LAS V LACC Lure Match
March 20th
Grand Union Canal Warwickshire

Teams of 14

Competing for a new perpetual trophy kindly supplied by the LAS

The match will consist of 10 head to head battles like in the ryder cup so all the anglers have to do is beat the person they are drawn against from the opposing team to earn a point towards the team total. So the final score might be LACC 6 LAS 4

Each angler counts their total length of the following species:

Pike, Perch, Zander, Ruffe

LACC will provide fish measures

Bacon butties and coffee provided on arrival...I suggest we also have a lunch break and we will supply food on the bank. That way we can have a half time scoreboard so everyone knows how the comp is going half way through..to build the excitement.

Team Captains - John Cheyne (LACC) and LAS (Kev Taylor), decide how their team is picked. If anglers are both LAS and LACC members then they have the choice who to fish for if selected for both teams.

Annual event...No charge for those competing but we will run a raffle with proceeds going towards a "get kids into Angling" programme (either ours if it's up and running by then or via the Angling Trust).

We have decided that the first 12 places in the team will be made up of the members who are currently in teams in the top 6 teams in the Club Pairs League, as these are members who have supported our events, and proved they have competition angling skills. The other 4 places will be picked by our Team Captain John Cheyne. If you would like to be considered for a place in the team, please contact john by email on the address below

NEW WATER !

We are currently negotiating a lease on a new water with the canal & Rivers Trust. We are hopeful this new water will be available to members by January. We have test fished the water twice and had some nice zander, a bream and lots of perch, the biggest of which went 2lb 4oz. Looks like it's going to be a great addition to our portfolio of waters !

HELP WANTED TO RUN REGULAR CLUB FISH-INS

To make sure all new members get a chance to meet other club members and to provide a fun, friendly, non-competitive way for everyone to get together and fish, we would like to start running a friendly fish in on the first Sunday of every month. Unfortunately the current Committee are very busy running our exiting events/website/facebook page/accounts etc so we are looking for a volunteer/volunteers who would be willing to commit to fishing a few Sundays a year and posting the details of where the meet up is on facebook/club website, and welcome people when they arrive. Please contact John Cheyne on john@luretour.com if you would like to get involved.

HELP WANTED TO RUN FAMILY FISHING EVENT

We would like to run a family fishing event where Lads/Dads or indeed Mums and daughters are invited to try out lure fishing for the first time. We have a level 2 coach in Dave Pugh who is willing to do some coaching and we would like club members to volunteer to come along on the day and act as guides for the new anglers. As children will all be accompanied by their parents during the event there will be no need for DBS checks or any issues with child protection. We just want to experienced members to act as mentors and help when there are tangles or to net and unhook fish. We are also looking for someone to help organize the whole event and publicize it to the local community in Warwick/Leamington/Coventry. If you are able to help with any of this please get in touch with John Cheyne via john@luretour.com This is an opportunity to help inspire a new generation of anglers, so please volunteer if you can, we are only talking about one or maybe two weekend days in the year.

Membership Reaches 140 !

Our membership numbers continue to grow and we have now reached 140 members, 113 of which are full paying members.

Pairs league Round 4 - The Wanglers Do It Again !

Posted by John Cheyne, Sunday, 11th October 2015 @ 5:35pm

  • The 4th round of our Club Pairs Competition was held on October 10th at the Stockton end of our Grand Union Stretch. Nine teams competed and everyone caught, however the conditions were unusual in that the water was surprisingly clear for this stretch due to cold night time conditions and few boats. This meant that the bigger fish were just not feeding and most catches were made up of small perch and the occasional zander (and the odd bonus ruffe!). True to recent form, The Worcester Wanglers (John Cheyne and Steve Wilson) won their fourth consecutive match and picked up 20 points for the win giving them a very strong lead in the league (full new league table to follow). The also won £60 worth of Fosters of Birmingham vouchers ! Well worth a shout out though were a newly formed team, The Adhocs (Mike McGuire and Richard Haines) who came a close second and also picked up bonus league points for best perch. Richrad travelled all the way from Sheffield to take part, which is a brilliant effort ! Pip Medhurst had a very good day too, despite fishing on his own he came a creditable 4th place. There was also a good performance from Team No Hope – Adrian Askew and Carl Arcus who competed for the first time and managed to pick up 3rd place. Well done everyone ! Full results below
