Firstly, welcome to the 2015/16 season. We have had a very healthy uptake of renewals for this season and we expect a good number of new members to join over the next few weeks. So the club is looking very healthy.
If you haven't had you membership card and joining letters yet, don't despair ! Our new Club Secretary is sending out all membership packs at the moment so you should have yours within the next 7 days.
I am pleased to announce that the Canal & Rivers Trust have agreed that all our members are free to fish the new club stretch as of March 16th, ahead of us formally siging the lease later this month. Full details of the stretch are below. At the AGM fish in we saw lots of decent fish caught including Zander to around 4lb and perch to over 1lb, as well as a handful of jacks, so it's definatley a bit of water worth exploring. Rules for this new water will be identical to our existing water, but PLEASE be careful not to fish outside our club boundaries. Other clubs have the lease on either side of us, and it's important that no LACC members are found poaching another club's water.
The Clubs new water is on the Straford Canal between Bridge 38 (Broom Hall Bridge) Just below Lapworth Junction to Bridge 47 (Old Warwick Road, Preston Bagot). The best access for parking is at Lowsonford, where there is a layby next to the canal just over the canal bridge (postcode B95 5ER). We are woking on a map right now, which will be available on our website ASAP.
One of the main items raised by members at the AGM was a request for more fish-in's and competitions. We can therefore announce that the club will be running a new season long Friendly Pairs League for all members. The league will comprise of six fish-ins run from this month through to next years AGM in February 2016. The dates of these fish-ins will be as follows:
April 4th - Stratford Canal
April 25th - Warwick Stretch
June 6th - Radford Semele
October 10th - Stockton Stretch
December 12th - Radford Semele
Feb 13th - Final Round and AGM Stratford Canal
There will be a small trophy for the winners of each event and then a larger trophy for the overall winners of the league. So it's worth entering individual events, even if you don't think your team can enter them all.
Below are the rules for this league competition, however whilst the matches are for "pairs" we would like to point out that individual members who do not have a team mate are very welcome to fish the events as friendly fish-ins, we can either pair you up with a another member who doesn't have a partner or you will be free to fish for fun as a single. It's all about fishing for fun, meeting other members and getting on the bank.
LACC PAIRS LEAGUE RULES
Entry to each round of the competition will cost £4.00 per team (payable in advance via our website). The winners of each round will be decided by which team catches the longest combined length of perch, pike and Zander. There will also be a bonus of 25cm given to each team for each different species of qualifying fish they catch (ie. if you manage to catch at least one perch, pike and zander then your team will get a 75cm bonus).
Points will be awarded to the top six teams at each event as follows:
1st - 20 points
2nd - 16 points
3rd - 13 points
4th - 11 points
5th - 10 points
6th - 9 points
All other teams who catch will be awarded 5 points
Each team will be allowed to use one substitute angler on two occasions during the duration of the league competition, so if your partner is unavailable, you can fish with a substitute partner on a maximum of two occasions.
The longest perch, pike and zander caught at each event will also earn their team an extra 5 points and there will be a prize at the end of the year for the anglers who have caught the longest pike perch and zander during a club event.
Entry to the first event on April 4th is now open to sign up to HERE
Kind Regards & Tight Lines !

LACC Membership 2015/2016
Please find below a link to the full details of our "Test the Water" Fish-in and AGM. The event is free for all members and includes a decent buffet lunch as well as the opportunity to fish our proposed new stretch of canal. So if you haven't signed up yet then now is the time !
We have also been alerted to an interesting event that is being held near our Grand Union Stretch this weekend. Canal & Rivers Trust are draining one of the Hatton Lock pounds and members of the public will be able to climb down into the lock and see what everything looks like without any water. A great chance to get a close look at the habitat that is normally home to our target Zander and perch. The event is free and might be a fun one to take the family along to.
The club is looking for new volunteers to help with the running of the club, both as members of the committee and also as bailiffs to patrol our waters. If you are interested in getting involved, please drop me an email via email@example.com or give me a ring on 07794234546.

You are cordially invited to:
The Lure Anglers Canal Club
"Test The Water" Fish-In and AGM
March 1st 2015
Lowsonford Village Hall
Henley in Arden
The Club are currently in negotiation with the Canal & Rivers Trust over our leasing a second canal length in the Midlands. This time we are looking at taking on a stretch of the South Stratford Canal. Having test fished the water a couple of times the canal seems to contain a decent head of perch, zander and also a few pike (I caught all three on my first 3 hour trip). It's also a lovely countryside stretch and includes lots of features such as locks with overflows, old bridges etc. Rather than make a committee decision on whether we should take on this new lease, we would like all members to come along and have a free fish-in on the water and then vote at the AGM as to whether we should sign the lease.
The Itinary of the day will be as follows:
Meet at 8.30am at Lowsonford Village Hall for sign in and Bacon Butties (NO FISHING BEFORE 9.00AM)
9.00am Friendly "Test the Water" Fish In
1.00pm meet back at the Village Hall for Buffet Lunch
1.30pm-3.00pm AGM (see Agenda Below)
3.00pm - free fishing on canal
Please note: All those attending the fish in must also attend the AGM.
If you wish to attend this event you MUST pre-register by signing up HERE
The AGM Agenda is still open for new items. If you would like to propose a new item please email John Cheyne on firstname.lastname@example.org
The Draft Agenda is:
- Meeting opened by Chairman
- Chairman's report - How is the club doing ?
- Treasurer's report - How are we financially ?
- New Water - Should we take on the lease for a stretch of the South Stratford Canal ?
- Membership types and costs - Should we change the membership categories and costs ?
- Lure Anglers Society Affiliation - Questions have been raised by the LAS committee with regards to our ongoing affiliation to the LAS. How do we wish to proceed ?
We will endevour to make the AGM as short and interesting as possible, however it's key that we get the support of our members for this meeting so that we can take the club forward.
We look forward to seeing you in Lowsonford on March 1st
John Cheyne - Club Chairman
Hello all.hope you are all well and the fish are biting well for you.
This email is just to bring you up to speed on possible changes to the way we issue membership passes.
we are looking at going electronic instead of the normal paper ones we send out. Some reasons for these change are down to cost and time factors. The cost to post out individual passes soon adds up and has to come out of the club funds. I believe this money could be better spent on maintaining the waters we already have and possibly adding to in the future, as the club grows.
Secondly the time factor. It takes time to print off the passes, write the envelopes and get them posted out. Like most of you our time as committee members is also precious. So any time we can save on certain admin tasks can only benefit the club in other ways.
The way it works is when you renew you will be sent a link. You click the link, and a pass will be shown, you add your own name and picture and just keep it on your phone. Most of us these days keep our phones with us when out fishing. It will save having more bits of paper to find and also lose with the associated cost of re issuing.
For the members who do not have smart phones, we will continue to issue paper membership cards.
This move to the electronic format is not set in stone yet. So we are open to suggestions.
Dear LACC member,
I hope you are getting a bend in your rod and it's not always because of a snag !
With just less than a month to go until our next Club competition I just thought it was worth sending you a reminder that there is still plenty of time to enter a team.
The event will be held on the Warwick stretch of the canal and will be for teams of two anglers. The competition is being run on friendly, fun lines, so even if you don't like "competitions" then don't be put off. There are no big prizes and the focus will be on making sure everyone has a great time.
Having said that, the trophies are going to be a bit special, so it will be cool if you manage to win !
If you want to enter please do so online at our website via the link below.
If you would like to enter, but you are struggling to find a partner, then please just drop me an email via email@example.com There is already at least one member looking for a partner, so we should be able to match you up no problem. Remember it's an open competition so you can bring a friend along who is not a member if you want to..who knows they might just end up joining !
If you are into facebook then do drop in and take a look at our new Club facebook page..it's certainly getting a bit of notice as we have already had over 170 likes, so news of the club is spreading.
We are busy making plans for our Christmas event which we hope to hold on the weekend of the 13th/14th of December. We are likely to make this our AGM as well and then all end up in the pub for a bit of Christmas cheer. More details will be circulated as soon as we have them.
One last note - Angling Times have booked the Stockton end of the canal for a drop-shot match they are organising on November 22nd, so if you fancy fishing the club water on that day and don't want to enter their match I would suggest heading for Warwick/Leamington Spa.
Tight lines and hope to see you at the Predator Pairs
Pick a Partner and come along !
The LACC will be holding it's first ever lure fishing pairs match on November 9th 2014
The competition is open to members and non members and the winners will be whichever pair catches the longest combined length of predatory fish. This will be a fun event so there won't be any major prizes, but there will be a trophy on offer to the winners and the glory of winning !!
Entry will cost £5 per team for members and £15 per team for non-members (this includes your day tickets)
To register your team please go to our online registration
If you have any issues with the online registration please email John C at firstname.lastname@example.org
This should be a great opportunity to fish with your best fishing buddy and pit your skills against like minded lure anglers..come along and have fun !
I have just been going through our database of members and their details and have found that we do not have your names. we require names for our database, as from time to time we need post things out to you.
Please could you forward your full names to me.
This is just an email to confirm that you have all received your membership cards.
if not can you please let me know.
We have sourced some ample parking for this event. The details are as follows:
Springfresh Foods Ltd
Wedgenock industrial Estate
This location is directly behind bridge 50 on the canal, so provides excellent parking for this event at the start of our stretch.
Hope to see many of you there. This should be an excellent event for the Zander.
Lots has been happening behind the scenes, since we held our AGM back in January, so I thought I would put together a Newsletter to keep you all up to date with the latest news.
Unfortunately for various reasons, both Andi Mytton and Steve Bates have had to step down as Membership Secretary and Treasurer respectively. However the good news is that Jon Barker has stepped in to take over the Membership Secs. job and Chris Jones will be taking over as treasurer. Both of these roles will "acting" until we can hold an EGM to ratify the positions. Many of you will also have noticed that Andy Swainton has been posting a lot of updates about the canal on the LAS forum, Andy lives very local to the canal and has shown a huge amount of enthusiasm since he joined the club. I am very pleased to say that Andy has agreed to become Acting Club Secretary with a particlular brief to help with signage, bailiffing and events.
Please note that there will be a British Lure Angling Championship qualifier on our canal stretch between Stockton and Leamington Spa on Sunday May 11th and any members who want to fish the canal on the 11th but are not taking part in the qualifier are asked to avoid the stretch between the Blue Lias and bridge 35.
The next Club Fish-in will be held at the Warwick end of the canal. A number of us have been fishing the water in Warwick over the last few weeks and doing particularly well, with multiple catches of zander on every visit, so we are confident that it will be an event that will see plenty of fish coming out. The date that has been set is...
25th May 2014 - The fish-in is scheduled to start at 10.00am.
Details of where to park will be released shortly as we are just checking a few things out. There will also be a couple of prizes on offer, so do make the effort if you can as it would be great to see as many members as possible on the bank.
Let us know if you are coming by posting on the LAS forum HERE or by signing up to the event on the LACC website HERE
As many of you will know, we have been in negotiation with the Canal & Rivers Trust with regards to a number of canal stretches in London. Initially we had hoped that we would sign a lease on these waters in early 2014, however there are a number of issues that need to be resolved before I am happy for us to go ahead.
1) We don't yet have a lease to sign - As yet, although C&RT have supplied an offer letter which outlines what the terms of what the lease would be, which we have accepted, we have not yet received the official lease document from C&RT. C&RT have asked me to put together a plan for how we would manage the waters which I am working on, but is dependant on the items below.
2) Chris Jones, who was to be our key volunteer in London has now moved out of central London and lives North of the city. I really think we need to have a group of committed members in London who are willing to drive things forward and take on key roles such as bailiffing and event organisation if the London canals idea is to succeed. Chris was going to be leading this group and while he is still very happy to be involved, he will not be able to take such a hands on role on the ground because of his new location. I have posted on the LAS forum asking for volunteers in London and we will be trying to arrange a get together in London soon. We need a committed, enthusiastic core group to help make this happen if it is to go ahead.
3) Fish stocks - Chris J and I have done a bit of test fishing and research on the canals in question, and while there are some great stretches which are safe and could offer fantastic fishing (Regents Park as an example) the fish stocks in the waters are poor. If we want the club to drive participation and get more Londoners lure fishing on their doorstep then we need fish. There is no point having a great stretch if canal, that is in the right place and is safe to fish if there are no fish in it, so I have asked the Canal & Rivers Trust if they are able to carry out an assessment of why the fish stocks are currently so low and what they would suggest as remedial action. .
So at the moment we do not yet have the waters and there are a number of issues I want to resolve before we commit both financially and manpower wise.
I hope the above has helped keep you up to date with where we are with the club. Any questions just drop me an email.
Hello all. Hope you are all well.
we are arranging a Zander fish-in on the 25th May. It's going to be on the Warwick stretch of the canal, which starts at bridge 51. This stretch has been fishing really well recently. It's also a stretch that is not fished that much so could through up a surprise or two.
I fished it the other day with two other members, and over 25 Zander's came out, with just as many lost. One of the ones lost was a high single figure fish. Some nice Perch where also caught.
please see link for details.
More details to follow
hope to see many of you there
