Canal Club 2014-15 Membership

E-mail sent by Member 11651bc, Wednesday, 12th March 2014 @ 9:29pm

Dear Members,

Thanks very much to everyone who has resubscribed or joined new this year. Everyone who has paid up to now has a membership pack made up to go in the post first thing tomorrow. For everyone else, subs are now due please. There's been a good response to the free children's memberships, which is great to see. Can I remind everbody as well that rod licences are due for renewal at the end of the month.

If there's any problems with the packs drop me a line and I'll try and sort it. The most likely thing is a wrong name - let me know if that's the case and I'll correct the database.

Hope to see you all with a bent rod down on the cut,

Best wishes,

Jon Barker, Membership Secretary

Canal Club Membership Fee 2014-2015 is Due

E-mail sent by Member 11651bc, Saturday, 22nd February 2014 @ 10:55am

Dear All,

The membership renewal for the Lure Anglers Canal Club is due on 1st March 2014. The fee for the next year has been reduced to £15, and children of members can now join free up to the age of 16. To join you must be a member of the Lure Anglers Society or live or work within 5 miles of one of the canal stretches.
The easiest way for us to collect the subs is online through Paypal. You don't need to sign up with Paypal - you can also use a credit or debit card on their secure website. A link to the payment tab on the LACC wesite is here: www.lureanglerscanalclub.co.uk/public/pay/subscription/

If you can let me know if you're not planning to renew this year it will save you from being hassled with reminders. But why would you want to miss out on fish like these... www.lureanglers.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php

Looking forward to seeing you all on the towpath over the next few months,

Canal Club Update

E-mail sent by John Cheyne, Wednesday, 5th February 2014 @ 8:52pm

Dear Member,

Good News

Things are progressing well with the lease arrangements for the new waters in London. The Canal & Rivers Trust are busy preparing the contract and we should be the official lease holder by March. As soon as it is all confirmed I will post a full map of the new waters on the website. C&RT have also agreed to contribute towards the costs of putting up signage, which will help to keep our costs down.

Dave Pugh and I are busy working on a coaching course for young lure anglers which we hope to run later in the year and we may be looking to the generosity of our members to supply some tackle for this once we have a more detailed plan. We will also be looking for helpers to assist the qualified coaches that will be running the course. If you are interested, let us know.

Despite the horrid weather the Canal at Leamington Spa continues to fish well, I popped down there last Sunday and managed four Zeds and a little Perch. The best of the Zeds went nearly four and a half pounds, so it is worth bracing the wind and rain and giving it a go.

Our stretches of canal have been chosen as the venue for two of the qualifiers for the new Fox Rage sponsored British Lure Angling Championships. This is something the committee were happy to support and the influx of day tickets for the events will certainly help boost the clubs bank balance. Hopefully this will allow us to invest in the Young angler coaching courses that Dave and I are busy planning. Due to this competition, the Stockton stretch of the canal will be unavailable for members to fish (unless they are fishing in the comp) on May 11th. You are fine to fish anywhere from the Fosse way to Leamington and beyond on the day.

Bad News

Unfortunatley due to work commitments Andi Mytton has decided to step down as Membership Secretary, which causes a bit of a problem as we are about to send out renewal letters and all the new club cards etc. Ideally we need a member to step forward and agree to take on the role. Other than a busy couple of weeks at the end of Feb/beggining of March, it's not a terribly onerous task and you will get plenty of support and help. You also get to sit on the committee and go mad with the power (joke). We do most of the committee work by email and telephone so there are very few meetings to attend (usually one a year + the AGM). Is there anyone out there who would like to get involved ? If there is, I would appreciate it very much.

Please get in touch if you would like to know more about what is involved.

LACC AGM Report

E-mail sent by John Cheyne, Monday, 13th January 2014 @ 2:31pm

Dear Member,

We are please to report that the AGM went very well on Saturday. We had a good turn out, discussed some very exciting developments and then had a succesful fish-in on the canal around Radford Semele.

The full minutes of the meeting along with the agenda and the Clubs financial report is now available to download on the website HERE

However we thought you might like a summary of what was decided, so please find below the key items discussed.

Two key things to note are that we have moved the renewal date to March 1st..so all existing members get two months free membership. We will also be reducing the annual subscription fee to just £15.00 for adults for the 2014 season. We have also agreed to take on some new waters..more details below !

Kind regards

John Cheyne
Chairman

Proposed change to club membership renewal date.

We would like to move the renewal date to March 1st to fall in line with the LAS renewal to ensure we don’t get people joining as LAS members in January and then not renewing their LAS membership in March. Proposal passed unanimously

Proposed change to club membership subscription price

As we have doubled our expected membership and sold more day tickets than expected, we propose to reduce the annual subscription to just £15 per year. No proposed change to the day ticket prices. Proposal passed unanimously

Proposed new waters

We have been in discussion with The C&RT about new waters and have been offered 3 canals in inner London. C&RT are very keen to get a tenant for these waters but have struggled mainly due to the lack of access/parking for traditional canal/pole anglers. They have recently published their new Angling Strategy document which sets a number of targets for social inclusion, inner city angling and local community development. We feel we can help deliver many of these targets through lure angling. They have therefore offered us these substantial stretches at a very low price for four years. Chris K Jones has agreed to act as our man on the ground in London and form a local team who will run the fishery for us and C&RT have agreed to help with funding and support. I think this is an excellent opportunity to begin to replicate the lure fishing scene that is already huge in Paris, Amsterdam and other European capital cities. Finacially we have very little to lose and it would be a huge opportunity missed if we don’t give it a go. Club membership would include all canals so existing members could fish the London waters at no extra charge. C&RT are particularly keen to work with us on a London Lure Fishing Festival which could be held each summer and once we have assessed the current fish stocks properly we would look to invest in new stocks of Perch and Chub as well as their being a likelihood of us being offered free stocks of pike. Funding opportunities and new memberhip potential in inner London is huge so I would expect that the new waters in London would add positively to the finances of the club rather than diminish them. Which in time may hopefully allow us to take on further waters elsewhere. Chris K Jones has agreed to act as our London co-ordonator and will form a team of local members to help run the fishery. It is proposed that we sign a four year lease on the following waters:

·      River Lee Navigation Tottenham Lock downstream to the confluence with the Hertford Union Canal

·      The whole of the Hertford Union Canal

·      The Regents Canal from Maida Hill Tunnel to Commercial Road Lock

Proposal passed unanimously

Proposed change to “local” members rule

With the agreement to take on new waters in place, we are keen to offer membership to the club to people who work in London near to our new canal stretches as well as those who live near the waters it is therefore Proposed that we change the “live within 5 miles rule” for local members to “Live or work within 5 miles”.

Proposal passed unanimously

Proposed Junior membership rate.

It is proposed that we introduce a Junior membership rate of £5 per year or free to the children of existing members.

Proposal passed unanimously

Election of Officers

Chairman – John Cheyne (proposed by Tim Kelly, Seconded by Gary Palmer) Unanimously voted into position

Membership Secretary – Andi Mytton (proposed by John Cheyne, seconded by Simon Nichol) Unanimously voted into position

AGM and Fish-In

E-mail sent by John Cheyne, Thursday, 9th January 2014 @ 11:39am

Dear Member,

just a reminder that we are holding the AGM Fish-In this Saturday

Lure Anglers Canal Club

Fish-In and AGM

Saturday January 11th

Radford Semele Community Hall

68, Lewis Road,

Radford Semele,

Leamington Spa

CV31 1UQ

It would be great to get as many members as possible along for the AGM as he have some intresting stuff to discuss including new waters, lower subs etc etc.

Despite the attraction of the Blue Lias and some of the big fish that have come out of the Stockton end of the canal, many members have asked us to organise the next fish-in on a different section of the canal. Well the area around Radford Semele is one of the best zander areas on the whole canal and also has a reputation for producing some nice perch too, so we thought it would be the ideal place to hold the AGM and Fish-in. The amount of rain we have had means that some parts of the canal are Very muddy at the moment. I had a few nice Zander out of the Radford Stretch last Saturday, but I will be checking the venue on Friday and if the conditions at radford are bad, we will move the fish-in to the higher water between Leamington and Warwick where the water will be less muddy. I will give everyone directions at the AGM.

So below is the itinery for the day:

10.00am Meet at Radford Semele community Hall for the AGM

12.00pm Make the short hop to the canal and catch a bucket load of Zander and perch

4.00pm All meet up again at the 16th Century White Lion Pub in Radford Semele for a drink and the prize giving.

Subscription renewal email

E-mail sent by Andi Mytton, Monday, 30th December 2013 @ 10:27am

Hi all

Sorry for the earlier email requesting subscription renewal, we have chosen to move the renewal date back to March but I had not foreseen that the website would send out the renewal so early (a good thing is that it works!)

I will contact members who have made payment to confirm their refunds shortly.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

LACC Fish-In and AGM Plus BIG NEWS !!

Lure Anglers Canal Club
Fish-In and AGM

Saturday January 11th
Radford Semele Community Hall

Leamington Spa

CV31 1UQ

Despite the attraction of the Blue Lias and some of the big fish that have come out of the Stockton end of the canal, many members have asked us to organise the next fish-in on a different section of the canal. Well the area around Radford Semele is one of the best zander areas on the whole canal and also has a reputation for producing some nice perch too, so we thought it would be the ideal place to hold the AGM and Fish-in.

So below is the itinery for the day:

  • 10.00am Meet at Radford Semele community Hall for the AGM (more exciting news about this below)
  • 12.00pm Make the short hop to the canal and catch a bucket load of Zander and perch
  • 4.00pm All meet up again at the 16th Century White Lion Pub in Radford Semele for a drink and the prizegiving.

There are some key changes we would like to make to the club that we will be asking the members to approve at the AGM. The key changes are:

CHEAPER !
Membership numbers and day ticket sales have been higher than we budgetted for so we would like to drop the 2014 LACC membership fee down from £25 per year to just £15 per year

2 MONTHS FREE !
To bring the club renewal dates in line with the LAS renewal dates we would like to give all existing members 2 months free membership to run up till March 2014

NEW WATERS !
We have been offered three new stretches of water by the Canal & Rivers Trust which we would like to take on as new club waters. Full details at the AGM.

FREE LURE !
Everyone who attends the AGM will get a free lure..yes that's right, we are bribing you to turn up !

KIDS COACHING !
We would like to start planning a youth development strategy, specifically to get the young people of Leamington and Warwick involved as they live right on our canals doorstep, we will have some outline proposals, but we would like your input and ideas.

We would also like to hear from members if there are any other issues you would like to raise at the AGM. We will circulate a full Agenda on Monday 6th January so please let John Cheyne know of any items you would like to raise by January 3rd.

We would really appreciate it if you can find the time to come along to the AGM and Fish-In to have your say and support the work being done by the committee.

Why not pop over the the LACC section of the LAS Forum HERE and post on the AGM thread to confirm that you will be attending.

Merry Christmas

Canal Club Aiming for More Waters !

E-mail sent by John Cheyne, Tuesday, 5th November 2013 @ 1:57pm

Dear Member,

We have been in talks recently with the Canal & Rivers Trust about the possibility of the club taking on some canal stretches in London. Most likely the Regencts Canal, Hertford Canal or Lea Navigation. This would extend the waters that are available for our membership to fish and also we beleive widen our membership of the club.

If we were to go ahead with the leasing of these waters, the extra members that we would gain may actually allow us to actually drop the price of annual membership of the club which would save you some cash next year so that you can buy more lures that you don't need !

Leasing the London waters will also allow us to offer some fantastic perch fishing right in the heart of the Capital City and promote lure fishing to a whole new audience. The potential of these waters is absolutely terrific. The Canal & Rivers Trust are keen to support our expansion and see us as a key partner in ensuring that lure anglers have good cheap access to fishing right around the country.

If you have any questions or concerns about this new development please let us know, we would value your feedback.

regards

John Cheyne

E-mail sent by Andi Mytton, Monday, 4th November 2013 @ 11:10pm

Hi all

I've been thinking that it would be nice to see some new images in the gallery as the first year draws to a close, maybe you could upload your best perch, your smallest zander and dare i say a pike, has anyone had a pike yet, i know i haven't? This is your time to shine, be careful with identifying swims though, I like to keep it mystical as to where I'm catching to keep people exploring and trying new stretches.

I'm glad to hear the festival was a success, i will endeavour to make the next one as it looked like i missed out not only on the fishing but some bargains at the tackle sale.

I'd like to leave you all with a thought, my catch rate improved when i started the other end of the canal, why don't you explore a new stretch on your next visit, you may just be surprised.

Canal Fishing well ahead of Sundays Festival !

E-mail sent by John Cheyne, Monday, 14th October 2013 @ 10:43am

Dear Member,

It's our Lure Fishing Festival at the weekend and right on time the Canal is now fishing very well for both Zander and Perch. Andy Mytton, Myself and Angling Author Dominic Garnett fished three or four stretches on Saturday and we had Zeds from everywhere we fished and some nice perch to just over the 1lb mark as well.

Sunday looks like it will be a lot of fun, with the tables for the 2nd hand tackle sale now booking up fast and the long range weather forecast for the weekend looking pretty reasonable.

Remember as a Canal Club Member the fish-in is entirely free and it costs just £10 to have a table to sell 2nd hand gear. If you do intend to come along please just let us know via the LAS Forum or by sigining up on the events section of the LACC website.

Below is the running order for the day.

Canal Club Fish-In and 2nd Hand Tackle Sale

E-mail sent by John Cheyne, Wednesday, 15th May 2013 @ 1:54pm

Dear Member,

It has been a great couple of months for the Canal Club, with some notable catches coming out of our cliub stretch, the highlight of which was Simon Nicols 9lb 6oz fish that was caught at the LAS AGM event. There have been lots more fish coming out though and very few members are now blanking, so it's a great time to get down the cut !

We are looking to organise another Fish-in and also have a 2nd hand tackle sale in the Blue Lias on the same day. At the moment we are trying to establish what the best date for this event would be, so I would be very grateful if you could go on to the LAS forum and vote on the poll I have set up there. This event will be open to all LAS members, so ecourage your friends who are not part of the Canal Club to vote as well. Remember, even if you can't make either of the dates mentioned, please do vote to say that you would like to come, but can't make either date. If there are enough people that vote this way, we will look at news dates. Just click the link below and it will take you to the poll.
Fish-In Date Poll

One of the suggestions we received at the AGM when we first set up the club was that we should have nice classy looking club enamel badges made. I believe we now have enough spare funds in the Kitty to do this, but is it what the majority of the membership wants ? once again I have outlined the details on the Forum and I'm asking members to vote on whether we should go ahead with this or not. Please click the link below to vote.
Enamel Badge Poll

Thanks for getting involved ! Good luck if you are heading down to the stretch in the near future, and don't forget to post a catch report on the forum if you get amongst the fish.
