No Wasps Here win round 2 but big zander steals show

Round 2 of the Lure Anglers Canal Club pairs league was no washout despite the heavy rain that fell during most of the match.

30 anglers set off from the Blue Lias pub to fish the Grand Union Canal between Welsh Road and Calcutt.

Some quality zander were landed, topped by a stunning fish of 74cm that fell to Greg Bafia and will be hard to beat for this year’s prize for biggest fish.

No Wasps Here of Steve Wilson and Derek Holmes finished first with a mainly perch catch of 513cm. Second were Trentside Predator Angling of Paul Danby and Lee Perry with a mixed catch of perch, zander and pike for 392cm. Third were Team No Name of Alan Brown and Vidar Thomassen with an all-zander catch of 373cm.

Despite retiring early after getting a soaking and catching three bream, Rob Busby picked up five bonus points for largest perch of 28cm.

Booking is now open for round 2 of our popular pairs league. We’re starting from the Blue Lias pub at Stockton on Saturday June 8. Note the earlier registration time of 7.30am for an 8am start, so we can get fishing ahead of the boat traffic.
