Join us for round 5 of the pairs and the annual prizegiving and agm

Last year’s pairs league winners Derek Holmes and Steve Wilson. Who will be picking up the club’s most prestigious trophy this year?

Booking is open for round five of our pairs league on more than ten miles of our stretch of the Grand Union Canal. The match will be followed by a buffet and the club’s agm and annual prizegiving. Ticket sales for the match close at midday on Thursday 16 February. All members welcome at the buffet and agm from 3.30pm.

The match will be held between bridge 18 Tomlow Bridge, Calcutt, and Lock 25 Cape Top lock (by the Cape of Good Hope pub), Warwick, on Saturday February 18. The canal will be split into five sections. Teams will be drawn between sections and will compete to win their section and the overall match. Check the CR&T map for exact locations of the section boundaries

The water will be closed for practising from Friday, February 10.

We will also be using the Score Fishing app to record fish captures, lengths and photos. If you do not already have the app, you must download it and register with Score Fishing before the match. Pairs league round 5, Blue Lias, Stockton.

Saturday February 18, 2022, 8am

8am – Meet in fishing car park at the Blue Lias pub, Stockton.

8.15am – Competition Briefing

8.30am – Competitors can head off to sections on foot or in car

9.00am – Fishing starts

3.00pm – Fishing ends on towpath and competitors return to Blue Lias pub on foot or in car

3.30pm – Buffet in Blue Lias pub, followed by club agm and annual prizegiving.

The match will be held on the following sections of canal:

Section 1: Bridge 18 Tomlow Bridge, Calcutt, to Bridge 23 Stockton Road

Section 2: Bridge 23 Stockton Road to Lock 18 Welsh Road

Section 3: Lock 18 Welsh Road to Bridge 34 Ofdfchurch Lane, Radford Semele

Section 4: Bridge 34 Offchurch Lane, Radford Semele, to Bridge 44 Myton Road, Leamington

Section 5: Bridge 44 Myton Road, Leamington, to Lock 25 Cape Top Lock

Teams will be drawn to fish a particular section. There will be a minimum of four pairs to a section. For example, if 12-15 pairs enter, they will be drawn between sections 1, 2 and 3. If 16-19 pairs enter, they will be drawn between sections 1, 2, 3 and 4. If 20 or more pairs enter, they will be drawn between sections 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

Where a bridge forms the boundary to a section, teams from both sections may fish under the bridge. However, you should not cast out into the next or preceding section. Where a lock forms the boundary, the first section ends above the lock and the second section starts below it. No fishing inside any locks. The water will be closed for practising from Friday February 10.
