Time to book round four of the pairs league on the Stratford and Grand Union canals
Booking is open for round four of the 2022-23 pairs league on our South Stratford stretch of canal and on the northern end of our main stretch of the Grand Union Canal.
The match will be held on the whole of our Stratford Canal stretch and between Grand Union Bridge 54 Hatton Locks car park and Lock 25 Cape Top Lock and between Shrewley Tunnel and Bridge 62 Rowington on Saturday December 3. The canal will be split into five sections. Note, section 4 boundaries have changed from the last match as the previous section 4 has been fishing poorly. Fishing in section 4 will now be down from Hatton Locks to Cape Top Lock. Teams will be drawn between sections and will compete to win their section and the overall match.
We will meet at Stratford-upon-Avon parkway, Bishopton Lane CV37 0RJ. It’s a large car park, so we’ll gather at the railway station end to the west.
The water will be closed for practising from Friday, November 25.

Teams will be drawn to fish a particular section. There will be a minimum of four pairs to a section. For example, if 12-15 pairs enter, they will be drawn between sections 1, 2 and 3. If 16-19 pairs enter, they will be drawn between sections 1, 2, 3 and 4. If 20 or more pairs enter, they will be drawn between sections 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
Where a bridge forms the boundary to a section, teams from both sections may fish under the bridge. However, you should not cast out into the next or preceding section. Where a lock forms the boundary, the first section ends above the lock and the second section starts below it.
Book now for the 2022 Predator Pairs open competition
The Lure Anglers Canal Club Predator Pairs competition is open to all lure anglers fishing in teams of two and will be held on the Lure Anglers Canal Club’s stretch of the Grand Union Canal between Hatton and Stockton on Sunday, November 20.
The best 4 zander and best 4 perch from each team will count towards the team’s overall total. No other species will count. This is an open match. You do not need to be a member of the LACC to enter.
Prizes
There will be trophies for the teams who come first, second and third as well as special trophies for best perch and best zander. The six anglers from the top three teams will share cash prizes.
Practice
All teams are welcome to practise on the LACC canal stretch before the match as long as they buy day tickets as required if they are not LACC members. Day tickets can be purchased online from https://lureanglerscanalclub.co.uk/public-pay-shop/
NOTE: the stretch between bridge 52 below Hatton and bridge 51 at Warwick is available to members under an agreement with the rights owner, but non-members may be asked to buy an additional day ticket on the bank when practising.
Teams must not fish the entire competition stretch between Friday November 11 and the start of the competition on Sunday, November 20. This is to give the competition area a rest on the lead-up to the big day.
Itinerary
Parking is at the end of Welton Road Warwick CV34 5PZ.
7.45am: registration and free bacon rolls & coffee served
Teams must attend registration in pairs. All teams must present a valid rod licence for both team members at registration. Failure to do this will result in your team being unable to fish in the event. Please also show your match fishing measure. Please make sure you arrive at registration by 8.20am at the latest.
8.30 am competition briefing and photo
This will be a quick round-up of the rules to ensure everyone is aware of how the event works. Plus a photo of all competitors.
8.40am: competitors can depart on foot or in cars
9am: fishing starts on the bank
3pm: fishing finishes on the bank
3.15pm: PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CATCH RETURN IS CORRECT IN THE SCORE FISHING APP. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THIS. YOU WILL HAVE UNTIL 3.15pm TO RAISE ANY ISSUES. NO FURTHER CHANGES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS TIME. YOU ARE ADVISED TO CHECK YOUR ENTRIES ARE CORRECT DURING THE MATCH AND RAISE ANY ISSUES WITH THE MATCH REFEREE BEFORE YOU RETURN TO HQ.
Photos of all fish submitted by teams in prize-winning positions will be verified in the app.
3.30pm Prizegiving.
Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. There will also be awards for the biggest zander and biggest perch.

Rules
The match is lure fishing only
No groundbait or pre-baiting of any type is allowed
All competitors must be in possession of a valid rod licence
Teammates may not fish more than 30 yards apart
Competitors may carry a maximum of three rods each but may only use one at a time.
Only one lure should be used at any time by each competitor. No multi-lure rigs allowed.
This is a roving match and competitors can fish anywhere between bridge 54 at Hatton and bridge 23 Stockton Road, Stockton. Use of cars is allowed.
This is a friendly match, please respect your opponents and don’t fish within 10 yards of another team unless you have been invited to do so.
All competitors must carry a measure suitable for match fishing. It should have a solid plate raised at a right angle at zero and have clearly visible measurements in centimetres. If in doubt, please show your measure to the organisers. We will have a limited number of measures for those who don’t have their own or don’t have a suitable one. You must also carry a landing net and pliers/forceps.
The match will be scored using the Score Fishing app. The team captain will be responsible for entering scores for both anglers in the app. You should ensure you are familiar with the workings of the app.
All teams must have at least one unhooking mat.
All fish caught must be unhooked on an unhooking mat and then photographed on the fish measure through the Score Fishing app. Team mates must stop fishing when their partner has caught a fish and help with the photography process to speed things up and avoid fish being out of the water for too long. Fish are measured to the tip of the tail and measurements are rounded up to the nearest centimetre ie 20.1cm is recorded as 21cm. Photos must be taken from directly above the fish. The nose of the fish must be visible against the start of the measure and the tail must be fully visible to the right. Unclear photos will be disqualified. If in doubt, retake your photo.
All competitors MUST be civil and friendly to ALL other canal users during the event.
The winners will be the team that catch the longest combined length of their longest 4 zander and 4 perch. In the event of a tie, the team with the longest individual fish will be declared the winner.

Find your best four zander and perch in round 2 of pairs league
Join us for round 2 of our members-only pairs league at our prolific Warwick venue. Entry is £5 for a team of two. Entries close at 4pm on Thursday, September 22.
The match will be held on the Grand Union Canal between bridge 54 at Hatton and bridge 23 Stockton Road, Stockton. This time only your four biggest perch and four biggest zander will count towards your score. There are no sections, so you can fish anywhere along the competition stretch. Fishing is from 8.45am-2.45pm.

Join us at Warwick on Sunday May 22 for a chance to win the Kingfisher Trophy and be named the Lure Angler Canal Club’s individual champion 2022.
We’ll be fishing as individuals this time on a stretch of canal that has both produced some big fish and some great competition lengths in recent years.
We will be using the Score Fishing app to record fish captures, lengths and photos.

The match is open to members of the Lure Anglers Canal Club fishing individually and travelling on foot. It will be held on the following stretch of canal:
Grand Union bridge 54 Hatton down to bridge 44 Myton Road, Leamington.
It is an individual competition in its own right. The 15 best-placed anglers will automatically qualify to take part in the LACC matchplay competition alongside the defending matchplay champion Nick Wilson. Any places not taken up in the matchplay will go to the next best-placed angler.

LACC INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIP RULES
Entry to the competition will cost £5.00 per angler (payable in advance).
Fishing is with lures only
No keeping of any fish in landing nets and continuing to fish. All fish must be measured and photographed as soon as they are caught and then immediately released. The penalty for breaching this rule is disqualification
Each angler may only fish with one rod at a time. (although they may carry as many rods as they wish)
Each angler may only use one lure at a time (no multi-lure rigs).
All anglers must photograph all fish caught on a competition-standard fish measure (on an unhooking mat) and with their competitor’s card in the picture using the Score Fishing app. Please bring your own measures if possible.
Fish are measured to the tip of the tale, and the measurement is rounded up to the nearest centimetre (eg 15.1cm is recorded as 16cm). The photo should be taken from above and the nose and tail of the fish should be clearly visible. If in doubt, retake the photo.
All anglers must carry an unhooking mat and landing net.
The winner will be decided by who catches the longest combined length of perch, pike, zander, chub and ruffe.
By entering the competition you agree to abide by the club and competition rules of the Lure Anglers Canal Club and accept that you take part in this event at your own risk.
